The prudent stewardship of our financial blessings for the advancement of God’s Kingdom can extend beyond our earthly journeys through bequests and other forms of planned gifts. Please consider remembering in your will your parish and/or Diocesan ministries near and dear to you.

Independent Foundation for the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown

Incorporated on June 13, 1990 to provide perpetual support to the Diocese, the Independent Catholic Foundation is a legally separate entity with a lay Board of Trustees managing all its administration, endowments and assets. Although the Foundation is not part of the Diocesan administrative structure, many Catholic parishes, schools, cemeteries, ministries and services benefit from the philanthropic legacies of those who establish a new endowment or contribute to one of 195 existing endowments.

The Mission of the Foundation is to provide necessary funding so that the Lord’s work may continue within the Church of Altoona-Johnstown. It is committed to the long-term strength and viability of the Catholic institutions within the eight-county Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. The Foundation reported a net average market value of $16.7 million in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, and a total distribution of nearly $670,000 designated by endowment beneficiaries to Catholic parishes, schools, ministries, students and more.

Catholics and others in the region consider the Foundation an important vehicle to assist with gift planning, endowment management, charitable support, or education in planned giving. Gifts to the Foundation not only further the work of the Church, but also may provide the donor with several benefits — perpetuity, public accountability, tax advantages, memorial opportunities and professional management. The Foundation strives to connect people with an interest in helping to the needs that exist. For more about planned giving, please visit the Foundation web site at
