Bishop Mark celebrated the annual outdoor Mass for students entering or returning to college, as well as the 2017 high school graduates entering the workforce or military, on August 6 at the Our Lady of the Alleghenies Shrine in Loretto. The Bishop offered a special message to the young people in his homily.
“I know that as you are preparing to head off to college or basic training or work, anything that has to do with eternity does not seem too urgent for you right now,” Bishop Mark told the group. “But it is important that you listen. It is important that you listen to the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, who is the way, the truth, and the life. And just so we are clear on this, I am not the only one besides the Father in heaven who wants you to listen to the Lord Jesus and act in a way that shows that you understand and believe in him. I am here to remind you that all of us who have come this evening to pray with you and for you; we all want you to pursue your passion, which must be inspired by the greatest of all teachers, the Lord Jesus Christ. And I am here to remind you that all of us who have come this evening to pray with you and for you; we want you to defy society’s superficial expectations about how you listen and how you respond to the truth.”
The Bishop went on to offer five specific pieces of advice. Click below to read the entire homily.
Bishop Mark also offered the young adults a special blessing and presented with a Rosary.
