The annual Diocesan celebration of the Knights of Columbus will be held on October 8 in Loretto. The theme for the event will be “The Joy of the Gospel.”
“In his apostolic exhortation published in 2013, Pope Francis speaks of ‘the delightful and comforting joy of evangelizing,'” Bishop Mark wrote in a letter to his brother Knights announcing the annual celebration. “Everything you do as a member of the Knights of Columbus reflects that delightful and comforting joy of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
The Bishop will celebrate Mass at 2:00 p.m. at the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel. The Liturgy will fulfill the Sunday obligation.
Immediately following the Mass, a reception and dinner will be held at the Our Lady of Loretto Community Hall (next to the Basilica and Saint Michael School). The guest speakers will be Reverend Peter Crowe, Parochial Vicar at Saint Benedict Parish in Johnstown (right), and Reverend Jonathan Dickson, Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Victory Parish in State College (left). Bishop Mark ordained Father Crowe and Father Dickson in May. The new priests will share what it means to be supported by the Knights of Columbus during one’s priestly formation, and they will offer some thoughts about what more the Knights of Columbus can do to promote and share the delightful and comforting joy of announcing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
All Knights, their family members, friends, and parishioners are invited to the celebration. The cost of the dinner is $15 for adults and $7.50 for children age seven and younger. Reservations will be honored on a first come, first served basis. All money must be submitted by September 30. There will be no financial transactions at the door. Reservations with a list of individuals attending and money can be submitted to:
