Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

Bishop Mark has issued directives in response to the coronavirus. The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown continues to be in contact with public health officials, and will announce any further directives as developments warrant. We urge parishes, clergy, educators, and the faithful to exercise precaution and common sense during this time.
