The Catholic Church is observing the season of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The season leads up to the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) and Easter. The faithful are encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Lenten season.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence. The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
